RGODC Classes

Proof of current vaccination is required for all dogs.
All classes held outdoors, weather permitting.
Wear comfortable clothing and shoes for all classes.
Pre-registration is required for all classes—space is limited; we recommended that you send registration at least 2 weeks prior to the start date to secure a spot.
Fees cover the entire course, usually 6 weeks.

Puppy Kindergarten (for puppies up to 5 months old)

This is a level 1 class for puppies, and is designed for both pet owners who want a well behaved dog with good manners both in the home & out, and for those who want the foundation skills for further obedience training. This class will also address typical puppy issues such as housebreaking, leadership, socialization, jumping up, chewing, and play biting. Handouts are included.

Commands learned:  Sit, Down, Stand, Come, Let's Go (loose leash walking).


One 50 minute class each week for 6 weeks.
Instructor:   Deb Pinkham
Fees:    $90.00 Non-Club Members, $45.00 Club Members. 20% discount for rescues (i.e. $72.00) on 1st 6wk basic course with proof of adoption (copy of contract).

Supply list for Puppy Kindergarten:

  • Regular buckle collar that can be adjusted to fit snugly

  • 6 foot leather or nylon leash (leather is preferred)

  • Water bowl or pail

  • Soft treats and/or a small squeaky toy or ball

  • Rawhide chew of other "busy" toy to occupy your puppy during occasional lecturing

  • Small folding table for very small dogs (toy breeds) 

  • NO chain leashes, harnesses, or head collars


Good Manners (dogs 6 months and older)


This is a level 1 class for dogs who have had little to no training, and is designed for both pet owners who want a well behaved dog with good manners both in the home & out, and for those who want the foundation skills for further obedience training. The class will also address leadership and problem solving for typical behavior problems. Handouts are included. 

Commands learned:  Sit, Down, Stand, Stay, Come, Let's Go (walking on a loose leash), Watch, Place, and "Leave It."

One 50 minute class each week for 6 weeks.
Instructor: Deb Pinkham.
Fees:    $90.00 Non-Club Members, $45.00 Club Members. 20% discount for rescues (i.e. $72.00) on 1st 6wk basic course with proof of adoption (copy of contract).

Beginning Obedience (dogs 6 months and older)

This is a level 2 class for teams who have completed basic manners, or can demonstrate the following skills:
1. Sit on command (first command)
2. Down on command (first command)
3. Stay (at least 1 minute sit & 2 minute down with handler 6 ft away, in the presence of distractions)
4. Stand/stay with exam by trainer
5. Comes when called on first command from a sit/stay at a 6ft distance and sits directly in front of handler
6. Walks on a loose leash by the handler's left side without pulling
7. Understands the command "leave it"
8. Knows the command "watch" & understands the correction for not paying attention
9. Goes to place or mat on command and stays until released.


The class is designed to prepare the dog and handler for competition at the Novice level in AKC Obedience and Rally competitions, and/or to build skills for Canine Good Citizen and Therapy Dog certifications.
Teams will learn: Formal heeling, Sit for petting & "Say Hello," Drop, Group stays with increased time & distance, Stand/ Stay/ Exam, Recalls with fronts & finishes.

One 60 minute class each week for 6 weeks
Fees:    $90.00 Non-Club Members, $45.00 Club Members.  20% discount for rescues on 1st 6wk basic course with proof of adoption (copy of contract)


Dates and Location:
Monday Evenings, RGODC Clubhouse (175 Barker Rd.) 
Start time: 7:00 p.m. in cooler months; 7:30 p.m. during warmer weather, May through September (meets with weekly group practice)
You may join the class at any time with permission of the instructor, Deb Pinkham.

Rally Novice Class(same prerequisites and equipment as Beginning Obedience)

One 60 minute class each week for 6 weeks
Fees:    $70.00 Non-Club Members, $35.00 Club Members.  20% discount for rescues on 1st 6wk basic course with proof of adoption (copy of contract)
